Teck's foundations in cinematography were shaped by assisting some of Asia's top cinematographers during the last years of celluloid film in Singapore. Formerly trained as an animator, Teck was an early adopter of digital cinematography and he was fortunate to have built his career as a young DP by working with Singapore's top directors such as Royston Tan, Anthony Chen, Boo Junfeng, Eva Tang, and Victric Thng, as well as working alongside Singapore's best gaffers, technical crew, editors, and colorists.
Growing up and living in Singapore's multiracial and multicultural environment has shaped Teck's interest in collaborating across cultures, and he has worked on cross-border projects across Asia, including South Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Singapore's unique mix of slick cosmopolitanism juxtaposed with traditional and local ways of life are a constant source of material and inspiration.
In his approach to narrative cinematography, Teck seeks balance between poetry, emotion and technical precision. Jodilerks dela Cruz, Employee of the Month, a recent Singapore-Philippines short film collaboration, premiered in competition at La Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival 2017 and also screened in competition at the Toronto International Film Festival.
He is currently pursuing his Masters in Cinematography at the American Film Institute, supported by the Singapore Info-Comm Media Development Authority's Media Education Scholarship. In his spare time, he shoots experimental music videos and band documentaries.
